The Whole Picture
True optimization requires looking beyond a single lab marker. Our protocols are built around how your body actually performs.
Testosterone is important, but it's only one piece of overall wellness.
Insulin resistance, inflammation, and poor metabolic function can limit long-term results.
Healthy blood flow and vascular function directly impact energy, recovery, performance, and longevity.
Without optimizing cardiovascular health, many men never experience the full benefits of hormone optimization.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The answer starts with philosophy. Most hormone therapy platforms are symptom-treatment businesses — you describe what you are feeling, they match it to a drug, they send it to you. That is not medicine. That is a vending machine.
YouthfulMD is built on functional medicine principles, which means we are not interested in treating your symptoms. We are interested in finding the root cause of why your body is no longer performing the way it should — and fixing that.
For most men over 35, that root cause is not simply low testosterone. It is a combination of hormonal decline, compromised nitric oxide production, arterial inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and cardiovascular inefficiency all happening simultaneously and compounding each other. Testosterone replacement alone addresses one of those five factors. Our program addresses all of them.
Here is what that means in practice. When you join YouthfulMD, testosterone optimization is part of your protocol — but it is not the whole protocol. It is the foundation we build from. Alongside your hormone therapy, we assess and support your cardiovascular and endothelial health. Your endothelial cells line the inside of every blood vessel in your body and are responsible for producing nitric oxide — the compound that keeps your arteries relaxed, flexible, and efficient. When endothelial function declines, everything declines with it. Blood pressure rises. Circulation drops. Energy and performance suffer. And no amount of testosterone will reverse that on its own.
Our Cardiometabolic HRT Program addresses testosterone and endothelial health and metabolic function together — because that is the only way to achieve the level of enhancement our patients are looking for. Not symptom management. Not just feeling slightly better. Real, measurable, sustained transformation that shows up in your energy, your performance, your blood pressure, your body composition, and your quality of life.
That is the difference. And it is not a small one.
Your Cardiometabolic HRT Assessment Bundle — includes four things.
First, a comprehensive at-home lab kit shipped directly to your door that tests your complete hormone profile alongside your cardiovascular, metabolic, and inflammatory markers. Everything we need to build your personalized protocol in one blood draw from home.
Second, a live medical consultation with a licensed functional medicine provider who reviews your full results and discusses your health goals, your symptoms, and your options directly with you.
Third, a personalized treatment plan and prescription recommendations built specifically around your numbers — not a template, not a default protocol that every patient gets.
Fourth, access to the YouthfulMD app, which includes personalized exercise programs, meal plans tailored to your metabolic and hormonal goals, and remote patient monitoring capabilities so your care team can track your progress between visits.
Medication is prescribed separately based on your individual protocol and will be reviewed with you in full during your consultation before you commit to anything.
Our comprehensive panel tests two categories of markers — hormonal and cardiometabolic — because both categories are required to build a protocol that actually works.
HORMONE MARKERS:
• Total and Free Testosterone — Total testosterone tells us how much is in your blood. Free testosterone tells us how much your body can actually use. Many men with acceptable total levels still have low free testosterone and experience every symptom of deficiency as a result.
• SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin) — This protein binds to testosterone and makes it unavailable. High SHBG is one of the most common and most overlooked reasons men feel symptomatic even when their total testosterone looks normal.
• Estradiol — Men need a small amount of estrogen to maintain bone density, joint health, and libido. Too much — which can happen as testosterone converts through a process called aromatization — causes water retention, mood changes, and reduced drive.
• PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) — A baseline prostate safety marker required before and during testosterone therapy.
• TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) — Thyroid dysfunction mimics low testosterone symptoms almost exactly. We test it because treating a thyroid problem with testosterone is not just ineffective, it is the wrong solution entirely.
• LH and FSH — These pituitary hormones tell us whether low testosterone is coming from the testicles themselves or from a signaling problem upstream in the brain. The answer determines the right treatment approach.
• Prolactin — Elevated prolactin quietly suppresses testosterone and libido and is one of the most missed treatable causes of low T symptoms.
• DHEA-S — A precursor hormone that your body uses as raw material to produce testosterone and estrogen. Declines significantly with age.
• Hemoglobin A1C — A 3-month average of your blood sugar that tells us how well your body is managing glucose, which directly affects energy, body composition, and cardiovascular risk.
Our at-home collection is clinically equivalent to a traditional Quest or LabCorp blood draw — and the reason comes down to the type of collection.
There are two fundamentally different types of at-home blood collection on the market today. The first and most common type used by many consumer wellness kits is a dried blood spot collection, where a patient pricks their finger and presses drops of blood onto a paper card that dries before being shipped to a lab. Dried blood spots are convenient but they are not clinically equivalent to a lab draw — the drying process can alter certain hormone and metabolic markers, the sample volume is smaller, and the variability in results is higher. Many endocrinologists and functional medicine physicians do not accept dried blood spot results as a basis for prescribing decisions.
Our kit uses the Tasso collection device, which draws a serum-quality capillary blood sample — not a dried spot. The blood is collected in a liquid state, sealed immediately, and shipped at ambient temperature for same-day or next-day delivery to CRL laboratory. This is the same type of sample — serum and plasma — that Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp use for their standard blood draws. The processing, the reference ranges, and the clinical reliability are equivalent.
This distinction matters because we are making real prescribing decisions based on your results. We chose the Tasso device specifically because we were not willing to build treatment protocols on blood spot data. If we are going to prescribe testosterone, titrate your dose, and monitor your cardiovascular markers, we need lab results we can trust completely. With the Tasso serum collection, we have that.
LegitScript is an independent third-party certification organization that reviews and verifies the compliance and legitimacy of healthcare and pharmacy businesses. Obtaining LegitScript certification is not automatic or easy — it requires a thorough review of our prescribing practices, our pharmacy partnerships, our provider credentialing, and our compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.
For you as a patient, the LegitScript certification badge means several specific things. It means our providers are real, licensed physicians and practitioners who are credentialed in the states where they practice. It means our pharmacy partners are licensed, DEA-registered, and compliant with all controlled substance regulations. It means our prescribing practices meet the legal and clinical standards required by the DEA and state medical boards. And it means an independent organization has reviewed and verified all of this — not just our own claims.
In a market that has seen significant regulatory scrutiny of telehealth testosterone prescribing, LegitScript certification is one of the clearest signals that a provider is operating with integrity and not cutting corners. Very few direct-to-consumer hormone therapy platforms have achieved it. We did — because we built this program the right way from day one.
Most patients begin noticing improvements in energy, sleep quality, and mood within the first 3 to 4 weeks. Improvements in body composition, gym performance, and libido typically become more noticeable between weeks 6 and 10 as hormone levels stabilize. The cardiometabolic benefits — better blood pressure, improved circulation, enhanced cardiovascular endurance — often develop over 6 to 12 weeks as the nitric oxide and metabolic support compounds take full effect. Results vary by individual and depend on the completeness of the protocol and consistency of use. Follow-up labs at 8 to 12 weeks allow your provider to assess your response and fine-tune your protocol for continued progress.
Yes. We are a nationally licensed telehealth platform and the program is available in all 50 states. Some states require a live video consultation before we can issue a prescription — which is already built into our standard protocol for every patient regardless of state, so your experience will be consistent wherever you live.
No. Many men experience the full spectrum of low testosterone symptoms while having total testosterone levels that fall within the technical normal range. This happens for several reasons — their free testosterone may be low even when total levels look acceptable, their SHBG may be binding up most of their usable testosterone, or their cardiometabolic health may be compounding the hormonal issue in ways that a single testosterone number does not reveal. Our comprehensive panel gives your provider the complete picture rather than one data point. Take the 2-minute assessment and your provider will determine whether you are a candidate based on your full profile.
